El lago Titicaca es el segundo lago más grande de Sudamérica y el lago navegable más alto del mundo. Está ubicado entre el altiplano peruano-boliviano a unos 3.800 msnm. Su profundidad máxima se estima supera los 360 m. Estas medidas aumentan en la época de lluvias.

El clima de la región del lago Titicaca es extremo, con grandes variaciones de temperatura entre el día y la noche. La temporada ideal para visitarlo es entre septiembre y enero, época en que los días son soleados, las lluvias muy raras y la temperatura diurna alcanza los 25 °C. Las noches son siempre frías. Por eso se hace el lago más navegable y también sirve para competencias acuáticas.
• Fauna Y Flora
Este lago ofrece una variada fauna compuesta principalmente de patos, peces tales como el suche, el carachi y la trucha, así como alpacas y llamas entre otros. En el lago existe una especie conocida como "rana gigante del lago Titicaca”, siendo el lago el único hábitat de esta especie.
La vegetación del lago se clasifica en anfibia, sumergida y flotante, y compone uno de los principales elementos del ciclo del ecosistema. Su flora está representada por 12 variedades de plantas acuáticas resaltando la totora , la yana llacho, la lenteja de agua y la purima. La Reserva presenta también flora terrestre ribereña con más de 64 géneros.
